After reading an article about voting in 8th Grade Literacy, one student suggested they should hold an election for a block president. After a short campaign the following students were elected: Mason Phillips in Block 1, Cade Orr in Block 2, and Coralie Bruess in Block 3. What a fun idea and great way to celebrate Election Day!

The past week, the high school ELL students, along with Ms. Keifer, the high school ELL teacher, have been making an altar in the ELL classroom for Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). This is typically celebrated in Mexico (and some other countries) on the 1st and 2nd of November as a day to remember and honor loved ones who have passed away. Students spent time making paper marigolds, papel picado (punched paper) and bringing in fruit, bread, and many photos of loved ones. All components of the altar serve a certain purpose, but ultimately, it is all present to welcome loved ones to spend time with them again. After finishing the altar, we also invited all of the Spanish classes to come check it out as they also had a small unit about Dia de los Muertos in their classes.
