Geometry students worked in groups to create a proposal for improving some physical aspect(s) of the current soccer complex. Groups created a written description justifying the project, a scale drawing, calculations, and a budget. Groups will share their proposal to Jeff Monteith and members of the New Hampton Soccer Club.

Students in Mrs. Macon's Spanish IV class did an activity this week called "Jeopardy Gallery Walk." They visit each "station" and read the Spanish sentence (answer) from our class story. Then they have to write the question for that sentence (answer), like Jeopardy, in Spanish. It's a great activity for critical thinking

Hospitality & Tourism class has created their own food truck. Some of the selections were a pizza food truck, a Guatemalan theme called Tostaditos, and Bloody Sweets. The students created a business plan, slide show, menu, etc. for their proposed food truck venture. Then the students made a lab of one dish. Tosta das de Tinga, a hamburger with a glazed donut bun, and pepperoni pizza were served. Take a look at the pictures and let your mouth begin to water!

The FCS department was able to buy some needed equipment through a Perkin's Grant. Thank you to Mr. Manson for his help with this and Christy Roethler from our purchasing department and Emily Hemesath for checking in the new items. It really does take a village to make a successful FCS program. The griddles were already put to use with a pancake lab in the 7th FCS classes. The other items will be used in the second semester. The juicers will be used for Advanced Foods in a beverage unit and Foods II in a fruit unit. The ice cream makers will be used in Foods II in a large dairy unit. The Blackstone Grill will be used in a new unit: Grilling in Advanced Foods in May. We will also be able to use the new grill for Cooking Around the World and Foods II's beef unit.

Mrs. Schmitt's two sections of Foods I were very successful with their knife skills prepping for omelets. The next day, after a demonstration, Foods I made their own omelets. Please ask your student to make an omelet for you at home to show off their skills and give their parents a break from cooking!

The 7th Grade FCS class made homemade granola in a food lab. They learned measuring skills and following a recipe. Then today the seventh graders made yogurt fruit parfaits using their homemade granola. They were amazing! Mrs. Schmitt heard one student say, "Who knew something healthy could taste so good!?"
