Cruisin’ Futures students spent the morning in Decorah learning about careers in interior design and hospitality. Thank you to KL Design Co. and Mabe’s Pizza for sharing your expertise. The afternoon was spent focusing on the various opportunities NICC has to offer. Student quote of the day: “Cruisin' Futures has allowed us to expand our horizons for future decisions.”
Project Runway designers start planning their fashion show coming up this Friday, January 14, at 5:30 in the High School Cafeteria. Students lay out their fabric and start cutting out their patterns. Then they get busy sewing!
Career week for 8th graders is underway. Yesterday students filled out job applications with Tammy Robinson, learned about interviewing from Holly O’Brien, and Health careers from Nick Sanford and Margaret Peterson. Students are eager to start day 2 today.
Cooking Around the World (Mrs. Schmitt & Mrs. Lechtenberg) went to Jameson's Irish Pub today in Waterloo for a lunch of Bangers & Mash, Shepherd's Pie, or Fish & Chips.

There are so many really good stories about resilience and we want to thank Jeff Macon and Mandy Morrison for sharing their stories with our J-term class Ya'all Take Care. Jeff is the husband of Tisha Macon and Mandy is her cousin. In class we have been learning about Social Emotional Learning, which includes self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationships and decision making. These two had it all and their stories are a testament to how much personal choice, perseverance, and human connection are needed in order to live and thrive!
Come and join our students on January 14th from 4-6 pm for J-Term Showcase night in the Cafeteria and Competition Gym. Our students have worked really hard and want to share with the public this free event.

We visited the Iowa State Patrol and met with two officers and Special Agent Reger from the DCI (Division of Criminal Investigations). We also toured the Black Hawk County Jail where we met Jarvis the K9 officer and his human. A few other photos are from our classwork where students made posters about a specific forensic career. The other classroom photos are from our Bite Impression Lab where students tried to identify fellow classmates by their bite marks.
Thank you Megan Andera, Mental Health Therapist at Northeast Iowa Mental Health in Decorah, for spending 2 hours with the Ya'all Take Care Now J-term class. She shared so much about Mental struggles, therapies, the brain and more. Your time was so appreciated.
Our Cruisin’ Futures students participated in virtual visits today with Ellsworth College and Coe College. In addition, we had a college panel made up of of Chickasaw alumni Sydney Wegner, Megan Ohm, Morgan Nuss, and Allison Nuss. A big thanks to them for sharing their college experiences with our students. Quote of the day: “Use your time during college to become who you want to be.”

We went on a field trip today to Bily Clocks in Spillville. We learned about the Czech & German culture thanks to our two guest speakers.
