Mrs. Schmitt received the McElroy Excellence in Education Enrichment Grants for the project “Baking and Food Production Class”. Keystone AEA has partnered with the R.J. McElroy Trust for approximately twenty years to provide teachers with grant money to fund innovative classroom projects. Keystone provides administrative support for the application/selection process while McElroy Trust provides $29,000 for the grant awards.
In the project “Baking and Food Production Class, high school students will run a business. This project will create a Take-N-Bake business where staff and community members could purchase homemade meals and pizzas.

In the project “For the Love of All Things Green,” high school students will learn lawn care and outdoor maintenance from start to finish. The goal is for students with coordination and spatial issues to be able to start outdoor maintenance equipment and execute outdoor maintenance tasks with greater independence.

The Spanish II students have started off the semester reading the short book Esperanza written by Carol Gaab. The book is based on a true story of a family who must leave Guatemala because of political persecution.
All Around the World with Cooking, Culture, & Crafts was a huge success during Showcase night. The students answered questions about their countries and gave out free food samples of recipes from their particular country.
