Environmental Science Students working with Chickasaw County Conservation Naturalist Matt Crayne spent some time outside learning about Geocaching. They were able to practice searching for temporary caches placed on school grounds. Students then practiced designing caches.

Baking I Class discovered how difficult it can be to make an angel food cake. It is okay when a recipe fails because sometimes students learn more from their failures than their triumphs. Baking is a science and recipes need to be followed to reach success. Mrs. Schmitt thinks the pictures speak for themselves. (Mrs. Schmitt didn't get a picture of all of the groups.)

FCS classes were busy last week with making ribbon- shaped sugar cookies, cake pops, and rice krispie bars for the Cancer Bake Sale. Two sections of Foods I and Baking Class participated in this project. FFA was the head of this event and will be selling the items and some baked goods that went to a raffle.

Mrs. Schmitt’s second group of 7th Grader FCS Class practiced their knife skills making veggie & fruit cars. They kept safe using the "claw" hand position and wearing knife safety gloves. Seventh graders had fun while learning!

As the holiday season approaches, all three school buildings have Giving Tree Forms that we can offer to our families that need them. This would cover things like personal care items, clothing and other toiletries. If you would like a form, please feel free to contact the school counselor at each building: Josie Evanson, NH Elementary ( j_evanson@new-hampton.k12.ia.us), Jenna Miller, NH Middle School (j_miller@new-hampton.k12.ia.us) and Michelle O'Donnell, NH High School (m_odonnell@new-hampton.k12.ia.us). Forms would be due back to us by October 28.
