Sweet teamwork in action! 🍪 Students in Mrs. Bonde’s and Mrs. Schwickerath’s buddy program had a blast decorating cookies, mixing their own frosting colors, and creating some pretty impressive designs.

Our Partners in Education, Dixie and Pete Zeien from Crystal Ball Skating Rink, came to visit Ms. Conary's/Mr. Pagel's fourth-grade class. They shared how they used math in their line of business. The students also learned about repairing/maintaining so the skates continue to be safe to use. The students did an impressive job of asking questions and learned a lot about running a business. Thank you, Dixie and Pete, for spending time with our students.

Students have been working on a sandwich and pizza unit. Their test is this week, but before that, the students had a pizza lab yesterday. Some made Margherita pizza, BLT pizza, taco pizza, chicken barbecue, and more. Labs can be difficult to get all done in 45-minute class periods.

It was definitely a day to wear an apron in the Cooking Around the World class. The students made homemade pasta using semolina flour. Today the class will use the fresh pasta in three different Italian dishes to wrap up their Italy unit.

Iowa weather likes to keep us guessing this time of year! One day it feels like spring, and the next we're back to winter. ❄️🌬️

Please remember to send your elementary students to school with their winter gear — coats, hats, gloves, and anything else they may need for recess.

Jessica Rochford, Chickasaw & Howard County Ag in the Classroom Coordinator, joined the fourth grade last Wednesday to tell us about how farming has changed from the past to the present. She showed students pictures of various old tools. We had to guess the tool's name, its use, and what machine does its job on the farm now. The students paid attention to her presentation and remained engaged. Thank you, Jessica!

Building Belonging: An Extra Special Week Celebrating Our Tribe During Inclusion Week.

Living skills are taught daily in the FCS (Family & Consumer Science) classroom. The Foods II class was learning about reading food labels, shopping for food with price comparisons, how to prepare cost-friendly meals, budget planning for food expenses, making healthy snacks, and planning for meal appeal. Mrs. Schmitt decided this unit needed more than learning out of a book, so they did a "mobile classroom" by going to Fareway. I spoke with the manager, Diane, first to see if it was okay for me to bring two classes to the grocery store. The day before, the students planned a meal using all of the food groups and followed their meal-appeal rules. Their meal needed to be under $15.00 for a family of four. The students went shopping and wrote down the prices, and they made some "on-the-spot decisions." An example was they chose a head of lettuce instead of the pre-cut lettuce because it was cheaper. The next class period, they made their interesting meal combinations during their $15.00 meal challenge food lab. (The pictures are their ingredients and then the final result.)
