April was National Financial Literacy Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of smart money management, including budgeting, saving, and responsible spending to help individuals make sound financial decisions. Last week, the fourth graders had the opportunity to learn more about financial literacy from Dustin Lewis of Security State Bank. He shared valuable insights about money management and discussed the various aspects of his work in banking. Thank you, Dustin, for taking the time to visit with the fourth graders and for helping them build important life skills!

The baby chicks hatched last week, and the fourth-graders were thrilled to hold and gently pet them. It was an exciting, hands-on experience that sparked lots of curiosity and excitement in their classroom! This experience also connected perfectly to our learning as the fourth grade class has been studying the structures and adaptations of living things. Observing the chicks up close helped students better understand how physical features support survival and growth.

Fourth graders visited the Landfill of North Iowa and learned about the importance of the 3 Rs—Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Students were reminded how important it is to practice the 3 Rs to keep as much waste out of the landfill as possible. They were especially surprised to learn that batteries the fourth graders think are “dead” can still hold energy and potentially cause fires if not disposed of properly.
A big thank you to Christa for the informative tour and for teaching them how they can all help maintain a healthy environment!
