In order to keep our newly renovated football field in excellent shape for our Homecoming game next Friday and to take no chances, we are playing tomorrow's (9/16) and next Tuesday's (9/23) home 7th-8th grade football games on the practice field directly to the east of our football stadium.

Only one set of bleachers will be provided so please spread the word to all parents/families/fans to bring their own chairs/seating for the sideline.

Juniors and Junior Parents: Juniors have an opportunity to take an exam called the PSAT. This test is completely optional. By taking the exam and receiving a qualifying score, students may qualify to be a National Merit Scholar and be entered into a large scholarship base. Additionally, it is also great practice for the ACT, if students plan on taking that someday. The test will be held on a Wednesday morning in late October and takes about 2.5 hours. Cost is $18. Students are asked to let Mrs. O'Donnell know by the end of the day on Monday (via email) if they would like to sign up.

Last week, Mrs. Macon's Spanish I classes did a gallery walk. They had to visit 6 posters and record information using clues from the photo and knowledge of cognates and vocabulary.

This morning, our 8th graders shared plenty of laughs and smiles as they opened letters they wrote to their future selves back in 7th grade! They also had a blast checking off their summer bucket list adventures. What a fun way to reflect and celebrate their growth!

Family Consumer Science Teacher, Mrs. Schmitt, nominated Phil Zwanziger (former manager) from The Pub at The Pincion in New Hampton for the Education Partnership Award. Mrs. Schmitt accepted the award in June at the Iowa Family Consumer Science Educators (IFCSE) conference; on Zwanziger's behalf. Schmitt presented the award right before school started to Zwanziger.
"My second year at NHHS the new cafeteria was not ready until October. They continued using the old cafeteria and I was teaching off of a cart at the back of the room. I wanted to get my students out into the community and into real-world experiences. Everyday we got on a bus and went to The Pub."
Schmitt nominated Phil because he was always so generous with his time and experience and allowed the students to come and do prep work at The Pincion. Hands-on-learning is the best way to learn restaurant standards. Mrs. Schmitt said, "Thank you, Phil, for being a partner in education!"
